A bargain excellent rugged 2" filter-wheel
Review by macoram on 05.05.2017 20:48:16( 5 / 5 )
A solid 2" filter-wheel allowing 5 filters. Each position clicks in place allowing easy operation in the dark.
A male-male 2" to T2 screw adapter is needed in order to solidly connect a camera.
Very disappointing product - moreso due to unclear descriptions/insturctions than mechanics themselves

Very disappointing and infuriating. I bought this filter wheel under the misguided notion that, being branded Omegon and with the description including M48 and T2 adapters, I would be able to use it with my Skywatcher Evolux 62ED (which has a M48 thread on the Field Flattener) and my _Omegon_ VeTEC 533C (which has a T2 thread).
This was not true. In order to use this wheel with the Omegon camera, you will still need an extra adapter (sold separately, of course), because otherwise both threads are female and you cannot connect the camera. Furthermore, what I thought was the M48 adapter got irremovably stuck on the Field Flattener, which effectively rendered it unusable - turning a 200€ investment that should have allowed me to take my astrophotography to new levels, into a 700€+ loss, since now I can use neither the filter wheel, the filters, or the telescope itself!
Some will point out this is user error. And they will be correct. But it is user error that could be avoided by clear descriptions and proper markings and identifications in the different pieces that make up the products. This is a problem that is general to Omegon products - my camera too had deficient instructions, which I pointed out in my review. The problems extend to the filter casing itself: the screws are attached to the holding side of the case which means you run the risk of the whole contraption disassembling when opening to place the filters or when reassembling afterwards. There is also no indication of which side is accessory and telescope side. I assume the accessory side is the one with the numbered face, since that would face the camera (and user) when in use, but again: not something that needed, or should, be left to the user to figure out.
On the mechanical function of the wheel I assume it works well. Before the problem with the provided adapters I was able to easily mount the filters and, after some struggle, reassemble the casing. But I did not get the chance to test it in the field.
The whole debacle has considerably soured me to Omegon products and Astrohop itself, which is a shame since I would previously sing their praises at every opportunity to friends and peers, and I would now advise against these accessories on principle.
Try ZWO. For all I dislike their close environment politics, at least they include instructions on the products.
