Omegon Advanced 150mm: now with 2″ focuser

June 16 2021, Marcus Schenk

The Omegon Advanced 150/750 EQ-320 telescope is a popular instrument offering an introduction to the exciting hobby of astronomy. With a new, large focuser, you can now even use 2″ eyepieces. For stunning observing and almost limitless views of the cosmos.

2" Okularauszug beim EQ-320 6"

Until now, observers using the Advanced 150/750 EQ-320 have only been able to use 1.25” eyepieces and accessories, but with the new 2″ Crayford focuser (patent pending), you will literally grow your horizons. This gives you the freedom to choose the eyepieces and accessories you want to use.

These are advantages the focuser offers:

With the 2″ eyepieces available in our shop, you can reach a larger area of the sky than is possible with 1.25″ eyepieces. For example, you can capture full-size large nebulae or enjoy seemingly never-ending vast fields full of stars. It also makes it easier for you to find objects. In short, a 2″ focuser is a blessing for deep-sky observers who want to experience the skies as if through a panorama window.

What if you complement the standard 1.25″ eyepiece, as supplied, with a  2″ eyepiece? The Omegon SWA 32mm 2″ eyepiece offers a fantastic image and a real wow-effect for deep sky observing.

Smooth mechanics for precise focusing

Such large focusers are quite unusual for a 150mm Newtonian telescope. However, our development department wanted to ensure that even owners of medium and compact telescopes could benefit from wide-angle eyepieces. In contrast to a normal geared focuser, the new 2″ Crayford focuser with ball bearings runs totally free of play. This allows you to focus your object smoothly and with high precision.

The advantages of the Advanced 150/750 EQ-320:

  • Experience sharp and clear objects: with the parabolic primary mirror
  • 2″ Crayford focuser (patent pending) for 1.25″ and 2″ eyepieces: you can connect additional accessories at any time – even from other manufacturers
  • Equatorial mount: so that you can precisely track celestial objects
  • Trouble-free start in the sky: complete telescope with two eyepieces
  • Find objects easily and successfully with an illuminated LED finder
  • Immediately recognise stars, planets and nebulae – even if you’re an absolute beginner

The Advanced 150/750 EQ-320 telescope is available with immediate effect with a 2″ focuser.

New: Omegon Oberon eyepieces with 82° field of view

May 23 2017, Marcus Schenk

The new Omegon Oberon eyepieces have an 82° field of view and thus provide you with an outstanding free and open view. Apart from this, they are waterproof and filled with nitrogen. At less than 200 Euros they have a remarkably reasonable price tag and are affordable for almost every hobby astronomer.

Waterproof and filled with nitrogen

You surely know the situation when eyepieces lose their shine. When dirt, pollen and the grease from your eyelids cover the eye lenses. This is normally the point at which eyepieces should be cleaned. But this is not as simple as it sounds, because lenses need to be cleaned with great care and using optical cleansing agents.  Omegon eyepieces make it incredibly easy.

Simply flush the eyepiece off under running water. And your eyepieces gleam like on the first day.

The benefits of a large field of view

Wide-angle eyepieces are the dream of any stargazer. In contrast to the standard eyepieces with a 45° or 50° field of view, large-field eyepieces give you the impression of floating through outer space. Above 70° the eye does not perceive the outer edge of the eyepiece, and a starry sky appears almost endless. The Oberon eyepieces with 82° fulfil this task even better, because here the eye can even move within the field of view.

The Oberon eyepiece series consists of six eyepieces with focal lengths of 7 mm, 10 mm, 15 mm, 19 mm, 23 mm and 32 mm. The three small focal lengths are available in 1.25″, the three long focal lengths in 2″. Any star gazer knows that sometimes it is quite difficult to find an object. A 32 mm Oberon eyepiece like this makes things a lot easier: A small magnification coupled with an 82° field of view makes the big Oberon a perfect finder eyepiece.

But also a 7 mm eyepiece with 82° has clear advantages: Viewing the surface of the Moon with a high magnification while still seeing large areas of the lunar landscape – it is just amazing.

The advantages of Oberon eyepieces at a glance:

•    Enduring: waterproof and filled with nitrogen – to protect against moisture and for a long service life
•    82° field of view: giant field of view, almost without limitation
•    Goof grip: serrated rubber armouring
•    Upscale design: anodised aluminium housing

Come this way: You can find further details on the product pages for the new Oberon eyepieces.

3D eyepieces: discover the third dimension!

August 1 2016, Stefan Taube

The use of binocular attachments (bino viewers) or astro binoculars with eyepiece connection makes for a stunning view of celestial bodies. The surfaces of the Moon or the planets, or even star clusters appear to be three-dimensional. It has been proven – and you can easily see this for yourself – that it takes two to see one: Looking through the optics with both of your eyes is a much more relaxing experience, and the processing of signals in the brain results in a much brighter, higher contrast impression. Even the colours of planets seem more vibrant.

3D Astronomy L-O-A 21mm 1,25" Set

3D Astronomy L-O-A 21mm 1,25″ Set

The new eyepieces from 3dastronomy dramatically enhance this effect! They come with an integrated Lederman Optical Array (L-O-A). This is a component in one of the two eyepieces of the set, which was developed by Russ Ledermann, the well-known optician.

This component consists of five square glass plates, which are mounted on the field lens. Used in both eyepieces of a binocular attachment or binoculars, it provides a crisp, three-dimensional image. By turning one of the two eyepieces, you can adjust whether the centre of the celestial object should be in the foreground or in the background.

What causes this effect? In this context, please read the product test report in the journal Astronomy Magazine, which you can find under the “Downloads” tab on the eyepieces product page.

The set consists of two eyepieces, which can be used in a binocular attachment or binoculars with a 1.25” connection. On the eyepieces product page you will also find a video, taken on the occasion of a meeting of telescope enthusiasts.

We will continue to test the eyepiece set in detail and report on our experiences in this Astro-Blog.
